I have been looking all over for a cooler setup for my outback. I remember a buddy having a medium size cooler where the handle flopped all the way over would lock the cooler lid down. I was thinking that would be great setup to mod with pole holders and what not. If the Outback where to flip, the lock would keep the lid and contents in the strapped down cooler.

BUT....

I cant find one of these coolers anywhere? I am sure the one I was thinking of was a big name brand, but I have been looking high and low.the only lockable coolers I have found are the Yeti type. -Too expensive.

Ideas?

I know what you mean...I used to have one of those some years ago - it was a Coleman and had the old-style locking handle. Now I have a small 25-quart Igloo Marine cooler that I use regularly in my Outback...it's redeeming quality is that it had the loop tabs on the side handle that were anchor-points for lashing it down to my kayak. It also fits nicely sideways in the cargo-area of the Outback too...

Basher, I took a cooler I all ready had and added my own system to keep the cooler closed if it turned over. Used a pad eye on the bottom section, riveted close to the edge at the lid. Used an open hook and riveted it to the top. Made a length of elastic cord into a loop tied around the pad eye and then just hooked over the open hook.

Cheap, easy to use and didn't need to buy another cooler.
