Sorry to hear the stick method didn't work out Dan. May I ask what your current method is, planer boards etc???

I do a bit of ocean fishing as well, but I just use two ram tubes to point the rods out away from each other.

My last homemade effort was the pic in June 17 post.

As I only recently got my small sail sidekick rig repaired haven't continued testing a new model.

Latest commercial effort was use of something called "Out Rover".

Small sail power too slow for it IMHO. Maybe will have better luck with AI.

we have been fishing as lot with the hobie AI here on oahu. so far this year i lost track of how many mahi i have caught. i caugth two uku and three ono. just this week my buddy caught a 45 pound ono on his AI. we troll with about half of the sail out or lesss depnding on wind when its 20 knots are higher we have very little sheet out. we troll down wind. when we hook up we will leave the sail up and running while we reack back and tighten the drag and set the hook. on a big fish i can turn the boat undersail towards the direction the fish is running wich is very rarly at us but usually away from us. i used this method to gain line back on a 30 pound ono i got about a week ago who almost spooled me. once he settled down and i got line back and some control i simply reach back because in an AI unlike a regular kayak you fight the fish off the back turned around in the seat i will reach back grab the furling line and reef the sail down. then i can finish him off. ono sashimi and uku sashimi the best. we have a web site dan and a lots of pics of the fish we have been catching check it out at www.coastalkayaktours.com tight lines and screaming reels. aloha Boogie-D

Aloha boogie

Great post. Info I was looking for.

A seat that rotates aft has been in the back of my mind and actually part of specs in a new hull I'm having designed.

My AI conversion kit should arrive in a few weeks. Getting excited about that.
