I am considering getting this for my revo 11 this spring/summer and am curious how it affects navigation? Does it slow down the kayak at all or make it harder to turn? How stable is it? Does the AMA make it essentially "impossible" to flip? or at least very unlikely unless you are deliberately trying to?

I'm curious about that too (I also have a Revo11), but I am more concerned with whether or not they will interfere with landing a fish when you get them to the side of the yak.

There are 3 settings, low, mid and high. You can place them so they have zero affect on "navigation" as they won't touch the water unless you heel the boat. Or, you can place them so they're in the water nearly all the time. Changing the setting is fast and easy.

Nothing is capsize proof and the thing to remember is that the wider you effectively make something, the greater the initial stability will be, but the less the secondary stability will be. A "trimaran" will capsize quite easily in rolling water as it tries to conform to the water's surface more than a narrower craft will. But assuming you're not going to have your kayak out in heavily rolling seas, it will make your Revo a much more steady platform for leaning, standing, etc. If that's what you're asking.

that explains it a lot. thanks. assuming this isn't for use in high seas during a storm, do you think it would be useful in a bay or in the ocean? what do you find to be the optimum height?

I use them when sailing and fishing on my Adventure.

I put them in the highest position when sailing, but I heel over so far they do drag. I just got the daggerboard, so that might fix the issue or I may not need them at all for sailing.

When fishing, I put them in the lowest position. Its still easy to move along down a bank from spot to spot. I am also able to stand up very easily without feeling like i'll fall over.

When you have the Sidekicks in the down position, you will experience a lot of drag. I typically use this setting for sight fishing. I always keep mine in the up position for anything else. (Revo 13).

I have had zero problems landing fish with the Sidekicks deployed.
