Post subject:  Battery Failure

I have the ridiculously expensive sealed Remco battery/Hobie fish finder install kit on my PA12 and the battery failed on me the other day. Now it only charges up to 5.3 VDC. I'm very good about keeping it charged up and I've only used it about 8-10 times. Has anyone else out there had this same issue? Thanks.

No...my Hobie battery is now 10 months old......I only charge it after my 3rd. use......about 18 hours use on average and has gone through 20 recharge cycles....I have kept good track of my use and see no degradation in the battery capacity......My fish finder-GPS is a Humminbird 768.

SLA batteries should to be charged straight after each use, they do not have a memory. They also don't like being drained too low before charging, and should not sit for long periods without charging.
The fault may also be the charger, not the battery. I use a Ctec - 6 stage battery charger, and leave it on charge 24/7.
A good quality battery charger is essential, to preserve battery life. I learnt the hard way, before buying a good quality charger.

I've confirmed that the made in China charger has failed after such a short amount of use. I have a quality charger that will charge at the same amperage and it works perfectly. After some getting some appropriate connectors I should be all set.
