Front...it needs to be forward of the Mirage Drive to prevent interference from the fins.

That is what I though but if you look at the Hobie kayaks that have transducer mount pre installed it looks like is on the back of the kayak

That's a good observation......the transducer location on my PA-14 is at the back end of the seat and this location, on a "non-transducer pocket-mount hull", is not real easy to access.

On my previous 2010 Outback, access through the forward hatch is a snap.......I installed the transducer just forward of the sail mast tube (a flat surface is important) using "Duct Seal" I bought in the electrical department at Home Depot....a 1 pound pug is under $3.00.
If you clean/degrease the area with alcohol first, place the transducer flat/flush on the hull and then use the Duct Seal like modeling clay to hold the transducer in place.
There are several threads on this technique.....it works well, no air bubbles to worry about degrading the signal and if you want, the transducer removal or relocation is easy to do.

Location: fort worth t.x.
I put mine right in the middle between the drives and it has always worked flawlessly.
