First and foremost hello to all, obviously new here and currently in the market for a good kayak (hobie Mirage of course) to mostly fish with but am considering a tandem to use as an extra excuse to get out in the water when the wife complains I spend to much time out in my yak haha. With that said I'd like to make an informed decision, and what better informed group than here. I'd like to know of others thoughts and experiences with fishing from a tandem both solo or with a second Fisherman/woman on board. Would I be better off picking up an Outback or revo 13?only ones in my price range really. What came to mind when I thought about it was added room for gear when solo, but may cause the yak to be a bit unbalanced whether I sit up front or rear. Also not sure one could reach each end of the yak from a single seat, that's where the stability comes to mind for climbing around. Keeping with only the Mirage tandems what do you guys think? Thanks for your time and any advice, hope to get out in the water soon!

Oasis if possible. I used 1 for a season and it worked very well for both solo and tandem. The MOST fun I had was sailing in a 20mph wind. That thing was like a go cart. Sailing was a little tuff but that was too much fun. Pro= You can take your wife or friend fishing. Con= You can take your wife or a friend fishing. We have a 2009 Oasis, and it was not sold really as a fishing platform. It really isn't an easy to use fishing platform. The new 2015 Oasis with the new upright seats, if it has the Lowrance ready scupper and rod holders looks like a good new platform for two. My wife isn't interested in fishing, but she would like to be along to make sure I don't totally do catch and release. The new seats will probably be very comfortable. If you can get the casting/standup mount for the front seat, it might be a winner. http://www.kayakfishmag.com/wp-content/ ... CT_800.jpg However, if only you are fishing, go for a 2015 one person Mirage yak. They are lighter/shorter and easier to get into the water and out of the water, and back to your vehicle than the Oasis. We love our Oasis, once it is in the water, and don't really care for it while getting it in or out of the water and ready for transportation. My wife jokes that handling our Oasis out of the water is like dealing with a teenager with a different mindset.

"The new 2015 Oasis with the new upright seats, if it has the Lowrance ready scupper" It will be nice but i was told by my Hobie dealer that the 2015 Oasis it does not have the lowrance ready scupper how ever i have a oasis that i use for fishing with my son 12 years old and it works really good for us, i have also use it solo and it was even easies to move around but i do have the sidekick on it

Depends... Do you mind a trailer? If not get the tandem PA. No trailer oasis/outfitter or a single. I have a 14 outfitter and i handle it by myself 90% of the time. Some times i am solo sometimes my 3yr up front. Fishing is easy from it i stand in it all the time but not really to cast just to get to gear, get my line out of the trees, or to pick my daughter up out of the water (she is fearless and will stand on the bow all the time). When i go solo i put a 25# weight in the front and it rides nice. I am 6ft 200 lbs and my wife and kids together are only 150 so i can squish everyone on the yak (and we have but then i end up doing all the peddling). Never tried the oasis as i got a deal on the outfitter but i like it. I will sell it when i find a good used TI as i like sailing better than fishing but fishing works on it just fine.
