06 versus 07 Revo?

Post subject:  06 versus 07 Revo?
Matt,

I purchased a revo last week and when I unpacked the mirage drive I noticed that the parts list that's attached to the bubble wrap indicated that the revo was packed on 10/06. Does this mean that the boat that I purchased is an 06 model? I hope not since what I thought I had purchased was the 07 model....

Also,
Is it okay if I install the transducer for the FF behind the sail mast post in front of the mirage drive? I had wanted to install the transducer directly in front of the sail mast post but the pelican box (because of the size) that I'm using to house the 12v battery needs to be positioned in front of the sail mast post. I want to ensure that there's no interference from the action or the turbulence caused by the fins.....

Model years start in August or July. Full features / accessories included become effective September 1st. So a boat packed in October 2006 is a 2007 model. The last digit of the serial number will be a "7".

I am not the best person for advise on a FF transducer location. Anyone else?

Just behind the mast should be okay. Make sure it is as far forward as you can get it!

I got an Eagle250 ff/gps and a 7 amp/hr battery from Cabelas...
Mounting bracket went in the drink holder nicely and the wires fed down into the hull...goop to seal the holes...FF/GPS unit easy to read/access...
Battery velcroed to the hull under the drink holder...
Cut the bottom off a small plastic box with snap top and secured it with goop to the hull just behind the mast...added bubble free 5 minute epoxy and held the transducer head in position until the epoxy firmed up...
Temp reads slightly high until the unit acclimates...
Depth and Sounder info...SPOT ON...
GPS overlays speed and/or whatever...more info than I care to know about but marking structure and catch zones seems like cheating! :twisted:
Display nicely backlighted and controls thumb friendly...
NO GOING BACK NOW!

Thanks for the explanation on how model years are determined. The serial number is CCMT1178K607 so I'm assuming the model year is 2007?

Great setup for the transducer but I'm thinking of installing the transducer inside a pvc ring directly behind the sail mast post and the fishfinder on a pvc pipe installed inside the sail mast post.

I did have another question regarding the size of the pvc pipe to use inside the sale mast post. One poster on this site stated that he used 15/20 mm or 7/8 inch posts for the mast hole but I found that 1/2 inch pvc seems to fit albeit a little loose. I'm thinking about trying 3/4 inch pvc to get a tighter fit and since I can't seem to be able to find 7/8 inch pvc which in my mind would be too large for the mast hole....anyone have any thoughts on this or where I might be able to find 7/8 inch pvc? I've tried Lowes, etc and no luck...

my fishfinder is mounted to a electrical pipe. I put some electrical tape around it for tight fit. Additionally, i tether it to my front hatch.

I cant put a drink in the drink holder as it hits my hips/thighs when I pedal. I would be afraid of the same thing if I put an FF in there. Also, I find it unnatural to look down for the FF.

This is how I did my installation. The FF can sit high or positioned low, and is very viewable due tot he forward positon. It adjusts well for best viewing angle and folds out of the way. Depending on the brand of FF, with a Garmin, I can remove everything and only have the ball bases left and the wire harness neatly tucked in the side pocket for surf landing.

The wire entry point is sealed with a blue systems cable clam. The TX is glued down with marine goop right behind the mast post. Battery is a 12v 4.5amp gel cell. I had a 10 cell AA battery set up before. Light, yes, but had to charge every week. Between that and charging the radio, I opted for the bigger batt.

RAM ball bases are very flexible. I opted for them thinking that if I sold the kayak, the next owner will like the flexibility of attaching whatever gadget he wants. The blue system cable clam can be re-sealed without the wires. It makes for a clean solution even after removal of the FF and its wire harness.

I put my 'ducer under the seat, no interference and less chance of it getting hit when I put stuff in the front hatch.
