Purchased a new Revolution and ready to mount some rod holders. I've decided on the RAM mounts. I want to mount the RAMs just forward of the two meshed pockets on the left/right side. Some preliminary measuring tells me there is limited room for mounting there. Some questions:

1) Will the base for the RAM-301-RBU Revolution Ratcheting Tube Rod Holder fit in this area? I like the versatility of this unit but want to make sure the base will fit there before I purchase. Is there a base Hobie recommends for this limited mounting area on the Revo? I want to mount a 1.5 inch ball.

2) Some time ago I read where RAM is producing a mount that will fit into the hole where the sail mast is inserted. Are the RAM mounts for the "sail mast" hole available for purchase? If not, when might they hit the market?

Thanks,

We have special backing plates for the RAM stuff we carry to fit inside the rail on the Hobies. Not sure their standard stuff will fit. Depends where on the boat I'd guess.

The mast mount is still not approved for production. We will not carry it if it damages the boat. Right now their design can crack the mast tube.

Matt,

Thanks for quick response. If Hobie has special backing plates for the RAM mounts, how do I go about purchasing two of the RAM-301-RBU Revolution Ratcheting Tube Rod Holders from Hobie? I was led to believe these RAM mounts could only be purchased from retailers - not from Hobie direct.

Thanks,

FishR-on

We don't sell anything direct... and we don't carry that model. Perhaps RAM has our backing plates under some part number in their system.

Anyone successfully mount a RAM base with a 1.5 inch ball just forward of the Revolution "pockets"? If so, please specify which base you used. This area of the Revolution is small. Pictures would be great.

I mounted a RAP-340 in that location. Pretty sure its the same 1.5" ball base. It actually fits there quite nicely. If I remember I can take a picture for you. Just mount it with stainless steel #10 hardware with washers and nylon nuts on the inside of the hull.

On a side note, consider the RAM-117U
http://products.ram-mount.com/rammount/ ... r=RAM-117U
I found that positioning the RAP-340 for trolling puts the butt of the rod in the way for pedaling. I wish I had the RAM-117U so I could kick the mount off to the side a bit more.

Would the diamond base for the FF work with the rod holders?

http://kayakfishingstuff.com/Merchant2/ ... AM-B-107-1

i dont know if you can order the diamond shaped base they list seperately or not, but if I mount my 250 where you're talking about for your rodholder, thats the mount I will use. Just not sure which screw package

The ball on the diamond mount is the smaller 1", the ram rod holders use the 1.5" I think...

The 2x3" base with a 1.5" ball fits perfectly in front of the mesh pockets

Even my 2x4" Scotty mounts fit neatly in front of the pockets.

BTW steamroll did you fit the new rudder up/down control lines to your revo. Was it easy to convert the rudder control lines. Do they work well.

Grant

Hmm, did the gunnels where you have your RAM mounts mounted shrink a little on the 07 and later models? I think mine needs that diamond base.

MyREVO is an '08. The gunnels are the same size as the 07

The ball on the diamond base is too small for a rod holder, its made for a fish finder or gps mount. You need a 1.5" ball for the Ram rod holders. The Circle base and the 2x3 base both fit in front of the pockets on the Revolution
