If I was running an Adventure or a Revo with sidekicks, is it possible to put the sail up and take it down on the water?

If so is their a good spot to keep it when it's down.

thanks

Neil

Neil,
I often sail my AI as an Adventure with the small sail and no outriggers. I have put the sail up/down many times on the water. I store the folded mast in the starboard paddle holder and the sail in its bag inside the kayak reached through the forward 8" hatch. I like to have it with me always in case the wind comes up.
You can store the sail wrapped around the mast in the paddle holder as well but I find it a bit cumbersome if I am paddling.
I find the daggerboard very useful in helping to stabilise the kayak, although the fins in the down position are an effective compromise. I slide onto the 8" hatch and straddle the kayak, placing both feet in the water for extra stability when fixing the mast. It helps to fit the mainsheet before raising the mast!
I enjoy sailing the Adventure with only the daggerboard in (no drive) just as much as I do sailing the complete AI! :)

thanks stringy, just the kind of feedback I was hoping for. The dagger board is likely what will make me choose an Adventure, not sure why they haven't included a dagger slot on the other yaks. I wish my Quest had a dagger slot and mast hole :(

Hi Neil,

As Stringy indicated, it is easy to put the sail up and down on the water. I always furl and unfurl the sail around the mast when it stands (unlike one of the Hobie movies), so you only have to raise or lower a completely furled sail (sheet is rigged in advanced). This works great in the oasis, probably the same (but bit less stable) in Adventure or Revo.

I always carry my sail furled around the mast like Roadrunner does in the pics in this thread:

Surely. a roller-furling system must be high on the list of the Product Development department at Hobie?

Here are some closer views of the sail secured and ready to mount. I have a permanent loop installed on the front hatch bungee to keep the mast base in place.

With practice, it takes about 30 seconds to mount the sail or take it down and furl it.

Of course, I separate the mainsheet from the sail and pre-rig it, then attach it with a snap hook when it's time to set up the sail:

To secure the furled sail, I keep a "tail" handy to snap on and hook:

If you're not familiar with it, there is a little hook on the sail that the knot slips over and locks onto to keep it furled. This will become clearer with you see the sail. 8)
