I'd like a more sailing oriented forum as well as one that offered more information from people using the tandem. I've made my wife watch the video on the Hobie site enough that I think she's ready to try it. If that didn't work I'll just buy the Outback for myself. :D

Hey Brian,
You are absolutely right. But, as you may have noticed, compared to some other sites, most of the folks that visit this site are lurkers not posters. So, until the pendulum swings more towards the poster's side of the equation, IMHO there would not seem to be much incentive to expand the site at present. Just my $.02 worth.
Dick

P.S. Whoops--guess I spoke too soon! Just as I was posting this message, Matt set up a new yak sailing forum--way to go Brian, Willard, and Matt!

Thanks for making a sailing forum Matt; that should help people find the sailing related topics. The blocks were a great idea, now I would just like to hear more about duct tape roller reefing; I guess it is just a matter of keeping the sail from slipping on the mast so that you can roll the sail up on the mast but if there is more to it than that I would like to hear about it.

It sounds to me like everyone here is a sailor traped in a Kayakers body. Or on a kayak.

I'm wondering how long you guys are going to hold out before you trade in the 2:1 Blocks and paddels for 6:1 blocks and a trapeez harness.
We all look forward to seeing you on a Cat soon.

For the record I give you two seasons.

Hey--I like it--a trapeeze rig on an Outback! Wonder how that would work out?

Sailor yes, trapped no. I had been sailing for about 15 years before getting my mirage. I got it mainly to use as a dinghy for my sailboat but of course I had to get the sail too. It has been pretty fun in its own right and has not yet served as a dinghy.

If I do say so myself (I'm pretty sure I'm writeing this) that is a sweet Idea I like it alot and If I ever feel the need for a kayak that will be the one I get.

I was just trying to make a funny.

Ok let me rephrase that if you dont already own a cat you will with in two years. ;-} Nice talking to everyone again.

Hey rwe,
Something must have gotten lost in the transcription of your message. I think you meant to say "I don't own a yak, but I will within two years."

I'll buy a Yak if you buy a Cat.

Sounds like a plan! Actually I have always wanted to sail one--we have a number of very active Cat sailors in this area and they operate out of Shell Point, Florida, not far from Tallahassee. We even have an annual Stephen Smith Cat Regatta, with other events scattered throughout the year. May have to check it out...

My new 2005 Hobie Outback(yellow) with sail kit(yellow) and plug-in dolly is on the way and should arrive within another week or two! I can't wait! The weather here in the New Hampshire Seacoast area has been warmer than usual and I can see the Oyster River which flows into Great Bay and then the ocean from my house.

Apalach,
Why not a cat rig for the two kayaks? Like this http://www.easyriderkayaks.com/catamaran1.htm
Here is another idea. http://www.sailboatstogo.com/index.php I'm thinking of incorporating the rod holders into the configuration.

dueitt,
Looks good to me!. Now who's going to be the first to rig the cat platform between 2 Outbacks plus a trolling motor? Oops--sorry--lost my head there for a moment...

Noalis: no thanks it won't fit on top of my truck or in some of the back waters that I frequent.

Apalach: Interestingly enough that is how I found the MarigeDrive (looking for a better solution than a trolling motor on a canoe plus a sail). Off topic what size and make is the the white cooler on the back of your outback? How are you tieing it dow? Also thanks for the rigging suggestions on the blocks.....
