We picked up some Sidekicks last week and took them out on the bay this weekend. It was pretty choppy and we noticed several times they would catch a wave and flip over. After that they would remain inverted for a while until another wave caught them just right (or I hit it with a paddle). We loved them and they did a great job. And even inverted they would help counter a sudden wind gust... but does anyone have advice or a mod for this? |

TalonDJ, You may have the setting too low. Mine would spin till I elevated them just above the water or barely touching it. It still can happen but to a lesser degree. You do not need to have them running deep to give you protection from a turtle. Sadly the only other fix is to get very pricey fixed pontoons. They are out there but a lot more than the Sidekick. Check out mingle's rig at teh bottom of page 2 of this post viewtopic.php?f=11&t=41471&start=15 Hope this helps Revo |

I had them in the max 'up' setting. Fortunatly they still provide turtle protection inverted. |

HI, I have a related question regarding sidekick spin, that I would like to direct to Matt or someone at Hobie. I'm trying to decide between buying Hobie's sidekicks and Scottys kayak stabilizers, for a non Hobie Kayak( OC Prowler 13). I notice, that the Sidekick's pontoons rotate around the outrigger arms and the Scottys pontoons are fixed and stationary. What advantages/disadvantages does this spin, have on the performance of the outrigger? What advantages/disadvantages are there between the two systems? Please note that, my primarily purpose for mounting the outriggers, is to stabilize my Kayak when sailing. Mahalo and Aloha, Nak |

Having them adjustable I think is a bonus - but if you are fine with them being fixed then go for the more $ route... it's all up to the user. http://www.hobiecat.com/kayaks/accessories/sail-kit/ |
