The wife and I have two new revolution 13's. I found a sail kit on craigs list for $100 and I bought new sail kit from my local dealer for 25% off. The new one has a plastic hook sewn into the sail where the rope ties on the sail. What is this hook for? Please forgive my ignorance. I am a novice.

Probably for tying the sail closed when rolled up.

That's it. The smaller sailing kit doesn't come with a tie-off already attached to the sail as the AI and TI sails do. You have to add your own, if you want it.

All sails for the kayaks come with this (not just AI and TI)

My older kayak sail does not have this hook, but the new one does.

The Hobie mainsheets come pre-knotted. You just loop it around the sail and the knot holds it furled -- no tying required. Simple, quick and effective. A lot of users don't know what the mainsheet knots are for. Thinking it's a mistake, they remove it.

I use a detachable mainsheet for quicker set-ups and take downs, so I replace it with a "tail" (pictured) to secure the sail.
