Hi folks,

AMA sidekicks working well on the Hobie Sport. However, one has a slow leak in the valve. Anyone encountered this before?

Grateful for advice on how to cure the problem (I've tried blowing through, cleaning, etc) or where a single float can be purchased.

With thanks,

Frank

I had one leak slow and I found the rubber 'O' gasket had fallen off the lower section of the valve. I found it luckily and put it back on the lower part of the valve. Make sure you did not lose yours.

I know you said you cleaned but if not remove the gasket thoroughly clean the underside of the valve and put the gasket back on and tightly close. If you still have a leak then use soapy water around the valve to see if it is the valve or the leak comes from around the female valve seat in the ama itself.

A vinyl repair kit will patch a leak in the float or around the seat.

If valve is defective and ama not too old check w/ Hobie about the warranty.

You little beauty!!!

Thank you so much Revo, you've just solved my problem.

That O ring had indeed fallen off. I was a bit perplexed as to what it belonged to, and this may sound nuts, but I hadn't made the obvious link to the valve. At least I had the sense not to throw it away :-)

Decent breeze on the River Avon so just off to put the sail up and take the Sport for a spin for an hour, safe in the knowledge that I have two sidekicks that will stay inflated.

(Yeehaa!!!)

Very best wishes,

Frank

Glad to be of help.

Happy sailing and keep an eye on that 'O' ring mine has never fallen off again but I always keep an eye out for it.
