Being a largeish person (just under 300#), I like the security of sidekicks even when peddle/paddling. I experimented with them off in shallow water and found there not to be an easily discernable "point of no return" as I leaned over. In other words, the vessel demonstrated that it was more stable in the inverted position. The problem is the outriggers get in the way of a full paddle stroke. Would reversing the mounting bar so the middle hole faces backwards give enough relief with the amas in the middle position (due to the bend of the rods arching backwards instead of forwards)? Has anyone mounted them forward of the sail mast tube on an Outback SUV?

I have cross bars mounted both fore and aft on my Revo 13 which gives me the option to mount them in either place. I'm guessing you'll do better with them mounted forward.
