Instead of adding a spinnaker or headsail, just come to Australia, leave the sail, amas and mirage drives behind and enjoy the true versatility of a TI, going downstream of course in one of the worlds longest navigable rivers, the Murray.

The silence is such a joy.

Shhhh, the fact that the Hobie Tandem Island is a great kayak is a closely guarded secret.
My wife and I bought an Oasis in 2007 and Kayaked with it all over the country (US) all summer long for several years, we actually wore out our Ford explorer, then our first Yukon Denali traveling. We had the kayaks (Oasis, and a Revolution) on the roof all summer, with trailer in tow, finding anyplace with water to camp. In early 2010 we traded in the Oasis for a Tandem Island, and continue the fun, as a kayak, we like the TI even more than we liked the Oasis, it is only slightly longer and heavier but it is actually easier to load the TI onto my rooftop than it was the Oasis (always by myself, and I'm not a big guy). I think because it is longer (less angle when lifting one end), and because there are many more places to grab (more handles). The Ti is also way faster, and more stable with much more storage area.
Yea I also have the sailing setup with the spinnaker, and jib, that we use mostly in the Gulf and Florida Keys (salt water), but we still love to Kayak.
However I'm not about to give up my mirage drives.
I've been to Australia several times (mostly northern and eastern areas), and am terrified of your crocs. It's just unsettling to me when they are bigger than my plastic boat ( a snack). I stay out of the florida fresh water where the gators can get up to to 21 ft.

Definitely our secret Bob.
We wont share it with anyone.

Yes I agree about the crocs.
River Murray though, has nothing to stop a swim when required.
We have a plan for 2015 to kayak the length (1,476 miles).
Will have a house boat for support as we are too old to rough it these days.
If you or any other Island people get to South Australia, make sure you look us up.
Cheers,
Brian
