Hi KBH and welcome to the forum.
Generally speaking, the centerboard should be located near the "center of effort" of the sail when close hauled.. With the sail mounted just behind the front seat, that would put the centerboard in the back cockpit about 12 to 18 inches behind the mast. Placing the centerboard ahead of the sail would make the rig very hard to control!
So, while a centerboard in the rear drive well would work, you wouldn't want to give up your fins! A good compromise is Turbofins in the back. They make an acceptable substitute for a centerboard and pedal as well!
