Hey Kepnutz! Forget about adding a hydrofoil to your Adventure, which weighs over 60 lbs. That Flyak in the video probably weighs less than 15 lbs. No way can you paddle or sail fast enough in a Hobie kayak to hydofoil. If you want to see a sailboat that does hydrofoil google Internation Moth and you can see videos of a boat that sail twice the speed of the wind. But the Moth weighs only around 24 lbs. Sorry to deflate your hydrofoil trial balloon for the Adventure. Punchinello |

Hey kepnutz, you're knuts enough to be the right king of guy to have a few smart ideas 
You're entirely correct that it is the weigh of the whole thing (boat plus paddler, plus whatever gear you carry that matters). The main problem with the hobie pedal kayak however is that if the kayak was to rise above it usual floatation line due to the foils, then a large part of the flippers would no longer be in the water and your propulsion force would essentially be gone 
I had these same ideas when the Island came out and I though to myself "wouldn't it be cool to transform an Island into a new version of the TriFoiler?"  But then, reality set in...
However, if someone was to double the size of the sail area, and install some foils (forget about the pedals...), who knows... this thing might rise above the water. That's way beyond my skill-set, but I'll cheer anyone foolish and smart enough to try!

I sail and padle on the Willamette (down the hill from where I live), or on the Columbia (when I have more than an hour or two to spend on the water). But what I love most is going up to the Puget Sound for a week end. Winds are light, but I can't get enough of the quietness and the rich smell of the sea! Happy sailing... |
