| Post subject: | AI handle big people? |
thinking about the pros and cons of getting two of the AI's instead of a Getaway. Does anyone know if the AI is comfortable and can handle someone 6'2" at 215 lbs ok? Also, that wierd drive system, is that thing pretty well accepted? I have two bad knees that would benefit greatly from quad workouts and this is one boring place to bicycle. |

the adventure island can handle you no problem. I never thought anyone would be considering the island and the getaway as they 2 boats, I always figured it would be the bravo and island, and yea that weird drive system works great! well, we have been looking at importing a Getaway. Havent ruled it out yet, but at nearly $ 9,000. I have to look at alternatives. There are mostly just the two of us. The AI dont need the space for storage, or the same kind of trailer. We have a Ford Expedition, and I am sure I could rig up something on the roof racks for the hulls, rest of the gear inside. The AI looks simpler to sail, store, and for us, to buy. If we had a Getaway, there are a couple places where we go that we would not be able to sail into on certain tides just because of the current thru cuts between the islands. If those little flipper things work on the AI, it might make them a better choice. If I have to add a motor mount and engine (forget electric trolling motors. No chance) to a Getaway, its a whole nuther can of worms just for being able to get into the two places we go the most, etc. Just our thinking so far. Plus, I need the exercise. |

the flippers do work very well, it the mirage adventure. you can store camping items and what not on the amas, surfboards fit nicley out there! i will see if I can scroung up some picture of the island fully loaded, Matt will be able to get them faster than I if he has time. |

we are looking at the costs involved. We have to have stuff shipped to Florida, then put on one of the several weekly cargo boats that go from Miami area to the TCI. Thats not so bad, shipped a truck that way. What hurts is when it gets here. Customs looks at the value on the shipping documents, and hits us with 33% import duty. Ouch. Used stuff with scratches that will pass as worth less money is GOOD! |

You'll have a hard time finding an AI with many scratches as they've just hit the water. If you get the AI, don't worry about your size, I'm 6'2" and a little over 200lbs and the AI handles me just fine! |

Hi Canibul, I have just been on my 1st jaunt in my new AI in 1.5 - 2.5 metre swell,very choppy with 10 -20 Kt winds, and with me being a beefy 115 Kg and 6'1" , the AI took it all in its stride. When the sail whipped from one side to the other it totally cleared my hat!  BTW I have Turbo fins fitted, boy, does she move with these compared to my Tandem and Outback.
One thing for sure, in these conditions the AI is a VERY wet ride!

I'm 6'3" 260 +/-. Need to lose weight and get in shape so the AI was the perfect vehicle. The sail musses the hair as it passes but handles the load just fine. Bill |
