Post subject:  Oasis single handed?

Hi group! I have been trying out a lot of Hobie kayaks and having a ball. I'm 6ft 3 inches and 225lbs. The Revolution fit me like a glove but didn't have the sail. The Adventure was fast and even faster when I easily (edged?) it. By edging I mean just tilt it a little on its side...seemed very stable on a slow deep river while I did that. Didn't have a sail for it either. The lanai was a blast because I took the seat out and could put it over my head (put a lot of foam in the drink holder) and placed it on my head and walked it into a white water play hole. Very stable great yak...tracks straight and of course its slow but I wasn't in a hurry. I flipped the Maui doing things I shouldn't and laid down on the bare hull (very comfortable!) and waited for my paddle to show up. Pretty soon there it was...paddled over to it like on a surfboard. Water in a hull doesn't bother me to much, I find it easier to towel it out than use the drain plug on most yaks. The Oasis is starting to look interesting but haven't tried....how is it for one person peddleing (spelling?) and how is it for 1 person sailing? If it sails well for 1 do you think a jib would work.....seems to have a perfect place to mount one seeing how the main sail sits back. Why I'm interested in the Oasis is because although I have always gone solo it seems like it would be nice to take someone out in the yak (so far I just loan them my yak for a few minutes). Also it looks like the Oasis (if single handed) would have tons of room for storage (camping/diving,etc). Which leads me to my final question. If the front of the Oasis is single handed and loaded down and your on a river do you think it would paddle (not peddle) well for class II camping? Obviously I'm one of those novices that haven't learned 1 yak won't do it all but its so much fun trying to find one thats close! Thanks, this is a great forum...I feel like I will buy a Hobie because it exists and because of the peddle/paddle. btw the Revo paddled great...once fighting a small upstream current I was peddleing and paddling. Finally being not in top shape had to go with the flow! I will be in Santa Cruz in late August for 5 days to check out properties and yaks. Any Santa Cruz yak learning ideas would be much appreciated. In summary I'm saying hello and wondering how versatile the Oasis is for solo peddle/paddle/sail. Thanks! gw

gw- just read your post. See my reply to this post:

I can recommend the Oasis tandem single handed once enough ballast is added so that the entire hull is in the water.
I really enjoy sailing it. With it's length and width I'm sure it could cope with a bigger sail. I am working on a furling system for it that works quickly.
I think if Hobie offered a proper furling mast with bigger sail options ( like the different flipper types) they would sell heaps!

I also find it an excellent single handed kayak -- decent speed and great manuverability -- and can haul just about anything! 8)
