A Nacra 20 sailor at MBYC dropped his rig a few weeks ago and did some damage to the hull as the mast bounced around with the wind and waves before he could derig and secure everything. His mast dropped because the shrould anchor plate broke in half due to fatigue. The Nacra plates are not visible or accessable and the failure was unseen. He checked the other shroud anchor plates before he left the club and found my starboard plate to be cracked. He called me so I checked it. Sure enough, the long inner plate was cracked in half at the top screw. The helper plate on the outside and the single screw had been holding the entire load for an extended period. Check your plates, especially the inner one for wear or failure. It could save an aggravating day of sailing.
