I am brand new to the H20, haven't even sailed it yet(can't wait). I was just wondering if it was even humanly possible to mast step a Miracle with one man(or woman)only, with out destroying the mast or your body. I got the trailer all ready to winch up from the mast support on the trailer to the fore stay attached to the mast, just like thee old 18...I got everything all ready...and then I notice the crazy mast step base plate...looks like it has to be sideways initially...HOW? the diamonds would rest on rear beam. Not good. I have no one to help me most the time...so how am i to proceed safely? What would be the proper technique for a one man mission like this. ABORT-ABORT!!!!!! |

Wes You need a rear mast cradle. Then yes lay the mast sideways, insert pin and it can be raised using the forstay, and the traps to keep it from swinging side to side. Take an 8 ft ladder and use it to support the rear of the mast till you get a mast support. |

Thanks Rich, there is a rear mast cradle on the trailer. So, just set the mast in the cradle and push the other end down to the step an lock it in with the pin...and then crank it up? |

yes but you will have to hold the trap o keep the mast from swinging, arround. left to right while you raise it. |

You need a rear mast stand that is tall enough to keep the diamond wires off the rear crossbar. Or you need someone to hold the mast up. You don't want to support the mast by the diamond wires. It is definitely possible to raise the mast without a winch and with one person, but it takes a lot of strength, and I wouldn't want to do it if there was any significant cross wind. I would recommend having some help you at least on the first couple hoists. sm |

Sorry its been so long, but I did talk to someone about my "teepee" that I use when stepping the mast on my 20. I finally got to the lake this weekend and took a couple of shots with my Blackberry. I have no idea how to post a pic on this site, so if you would like a pic of this let me know, or tell me how to post in here. Thanks John |
