OK, so there's a REALLY good deal on a miracle 20 on craigslist right now- but the owner says that in one of the hulls the front bulkhead is clogged and there is water stuck there. It has been like this for 6 months. Is this a major problem? I can do a fairly simple fix, but nothing too complex. Other than this, the boat is complete and in good shape. |

Water likely entered at the bow tang. You could remove the sealant and drain from there somehow... then seal again. Water sitting in the hull is not great, but most boats stay pretty wet inside over their lives anyway. |

Thanks, Matt. My idea is to try to go in and unplug the bulkhead with a plumber's snake, from the inspection port, and if that doesn't work, cutting a (small) hole near the bulkhead, removing the blockage, and then draining the water. Can the boat be sailed with water like this? I just found out it's been there for just over a year. |

Depends on how much water, but if forward of the forward-most bulkhead (Bow tang) it can't be much. I have heard of people using a dremel disc and cutting on the keel line for / aft just under the bulkhead. Then move the tool handle in a vertical arch to make the top of the disc surface (inside the hull) cut away the blockage while leaving only a thin /short cut in the keel to patch. |
