Sailing in 15 knots of wind and POW, the block hanger (on the boom) broke, split in two at the bottom.

Is this a potential point of failure? Or since lately I've been used to sailing a H16 was I sheeting too tight? Experience with this boat is minimal, at best.

The boat is a '93, that saw seven years of extensive use (by an experienced sailor) and since has sat in a Garage. Overall in very good condition.

It was a very old part with a lot of use on it. Replace the block hanger and take a look at the shackle to see if there is sharp edge on it. If it last another ten years of hard use you are doing well.
