Hello! My brother and I just bought a 1994 H20, no spinnaker. We wanted to put one on, but some guys at the boat club said it may not be a good idea because the mast we have has a composite tip at the end (starting immediately above where the shourds and trap wires attach to the mast) and they said the spinnaker would just snap it off. Does anyone have a spinnaker rigged with this type of mast? Has anyone had this happen? Any info is appreciated (can't find much on the web).

thanks,
seth

Mike Hammond has a spinnaker setup on his 20 that is giant. Not a small spinnaker that the Tigers have. I think it comes from another boat. If he can fly it on the comptip all should be okay for you. A spinnaker on the 20 kind of gets confusing though, because the jib traveller makes all the lines come to the same place on the trampoline.

Later,
Dan

I thought the same when I first got my H20.
Now I find the boat is so fast that the apparent wind is always so far forward even on a broad reach.
Try the boat out first...

I can get hold of a Tornado kite. How does this compare to the original H20 set up?

I have seen several H20's with them and they seem to work well

Thanks for the info. We took the spinnaker back to the shop, for now. That boat has enough power for us, that we don't need any more. Perhaps in a few years, when we get bored!

If you can master the "Wild Thang" downwind you can beat Tigers with their spins out. Watched Wick Smith do it many times. I believe he's sailing an I-20 now.
