On my 16 I had carpeted rails, so this was never an issue. Got trapped out on the 20 the other day and just couldnt get comfortable - secure is probably a better word. I got my feet onto the 'corners' of the hulls, but after 2 minutes my feet were killing me. I noticed in some pictures of 20's, the skipper and crew have their feet on the hull sides instead. Tried that, and was slipping. It may have been that the hull was barely skimming the water and if it was up higher it would have been easier. Tried adjusting the trap height too - just couldnt get comfortable. Have any of you guys added non-skid? maybe the neoprene non-skid? and if so - do you put it on the top of the hull - or on the side near where it meets the top?

Thanks!

The non-skid on the 20 goes on the side.
If it is installed on the side and rolls over the top, to the deck, it will eventually peel off when you're butt drags across it on the way out on the wire.
I put a 2" wide strip of hydro-turf on mine, from the rear beam to about 18" forward of the front crossbar (note, I only raced the boat, you may want to extend further aft for rec sailing).
Non-skid tape will work as well.

@ J eaton,

I was just surfing some posts and saw this picture, I recognize the 2 boats in the back ground by sail number and the one to the left by the number and decals on the side. Was that picture taken at Grande Maumelle Sailing Club?

yup, that's correct, the 2007 Division 14 Daggerboard championships at Lake Maumelle

979 is Chuck Blair and Cynthia Fisher
980 is Dan Jarrett and Bruce (aka Wrinklie) Fields

Wish I could remember the gentlemens' name who took the photo. Quite an accomplished fellow who aerial photographed the entire State of Arkansas.

I was just out in Long Beach at the 2012 F18 worlds and the new nacra infusions have this soft nonskid that goes from the tramp to over the side of the hull about 3 inches from fore beam to aft beam. Not sure of the material, but it is nothing like the sand paper non-skid tape. Seems nice for those non-harness days on the bum. If your having problems with your feet and footing, I would look more into a bootie with a good sole. :)
