I am interested in having a local boat painter/expert re-gelcoat my Hobie 20. Any thoughts on this? The boat needs a hole repaired from Hurricane Sandy and the bottoms of the hulls need to be gelcoated. I ws thinking to just have the whole boat re-done? Ideas? Procedures? Thoughts? Thanks!! |

I was going to have my fiberglass dune buggy body recoated and it was more expensive then buying a new dune buggy body. about 2K. But you can go out and buy new hulls for a your boat. |

It will add a lot of weight to a weight sensitive boat. Better to fix the hole, repair and refinish the bottoms. |

It's rarely necessary to re-gel coat the entire boat. Like Hammond said, it's heavy, and it will fill in the non-skid on the decks. Gel coat is much thicker than paint. All Hobie 20s (except for one) are white, so there should be minimal matching issues when blending the new gel coat in. |

Thank you for the valuable feedback. I guess having the hulls re-gelcoated on the bottom and feathered into the original glecoat would be best....Thanks for the help!! |
