The pulley on the mast tange for the jib halyard is starting to wear a groove in the mast. The mast had a patch of some sort, originally to protect it but the patch has long since worn away.

Any ideas on what I can do to prevent the groove from getting any bigger? Thanks in advance,

Abraham

re-work your rigging to specification.

It is likely occurring while trailering. When you trailer, take a 10" long piece of pool noodle, slice it lengthwise like a sub roll, and snap it over the offending pulley. Then use a bungee loop around the mast to hold the noodle on. I do this on my boats to protect the mast from flopping stainless rigging hardware.

It's rigged correctly... at least a version of correctly. It's not from trailering, mine does the same thing, although not as bad as yours. When you tension your jib halyard it pulls it tight against the mast. My pulley wore out and I replaced it with a spare 18 metal pulley so mine doesn't rub the same way. If you look at the rigging manual on the hobie site now, it references a mount to your forestay adjuster instead of the mast tang. You may want to recreate that or mount up a plastic or SS plate for your pulley to rub on.

Any other thoughts?

A piece of adhesive-backed UHMWPE stuck to the mast where the block rubs on it.

Twist shackle to the 7 hole adjuster, then shackle the halyard block to the 7 hole. this will pull the halyard block away from the mast. Remove the halyard hanger from the tang.
