Post subject:  Deck delams.

I have a year 92 H 20. Deck surface on the hull had a delamination right behind a dagger board well. I took a dimond saw and cut out top layer of fiberglass between inside and outside nonskid panels ( little nonskid panel between them I removed). I scraped out wet foam and replaced with new foam using West System epoxy. Then I fiberglased panel back with Vynilester resin and 1 1/2 oz. fiberglass matt. Then I srayed gelcoat on top of it. I can go ahead and reapply original nonskid texture by using noskid pattern. But my question is , if I want to change nonskid texture on the entire boat and also paint it with AwlGrip polyurithane paint will that affect my boats value ? How about if I ever want to race the boat will I still be class legal even if noskid texture is changed on the boat ? Arnis

Yes,
That much repair/redo will make your boat worth less. Does it really need paint? The white hulls look really good after a little acid wash and a polishing. Grinding off the nonskid pattern and applying something new will make your boat less valuable. You should really limit walking on the deck of any sandwich foam built boat, so adding really good nonskid and then painting it will just encourage you to walk on the deck and destroy all the work and $ you have just put into your older boat. There are easier and cheaper ways to fix the delam. Spend your time sailing, and money on really important stuff like new sails...
