Take a close look at the photo enlarged. It looks like this is damaged extrusion, and not the comptip luff track. OUCH |

Naw, that's the plastic luff track. It's very shiny and the flash makes it look like AL in the photo. |

Replacing the plastic comptip luff track is not that hard (the aluminum track is another story). Just be careful not to crack the fiberglass lip that holds the track on. One thing though, I'm not sure how expensive a replacement track is, but I might try just cutting out the bad section of track (similar to the cut-out where you insert the sail in the aluminum extrusion). It doesn't look like it's a very long broken section. Use a dremel tool to cut out the bad section and file the area smooth. If the top of the mainsail bolt rope isn't frayed, it would probably slide right through. sm |
