Sailing buddies were supposed to take us out this last summer on their H20. Their excuse was that there is a vertical crack in their comp-tip. I offered to poll the Forum for advice. Have no idea how big/small. Is this repairable? With bi-directional fibreglass? Or should they replace? Now when it gets really cold, maybe we can do some serious ice sailing. Happy Holidays to all. |

I'd say replace it if its any size at all. When you downhaul the sail it puts a lot of bend on the mast and comptip. |

Vertical crack? Where? Maybe it is just the plastic (replaceable) track. I have not seen a vertical crack in a CompTip as far as I recall. |

John, I had a vertical crack in my H-18 comptip. It was the along the seam in the front of the mast only in the outer plastic. I took of the top cap & removed the plug. Open the crack a little with a Dremel tool & mix epoxy & color it black. Have someone hold a vaccuum to the end & pour some epoxy in, it will just suck in. Add some filler to thicken & fill the crack with out the vaccuum. let dry, sand, replace plug & cap & try it. Mine has held up in a race where the wind gusts were 40+ |

I would try it to repair for sure. When I bought my H 20 about 6 month ago , everything was in great shape exept Comp-tip was broken in half. I was able to repair that and you can't even tell where repair was. You can defenetly repair crack. Arnis |
