The bulkhead in front of the front cross bar in the port hull has started to separate from the hull. Should it be repaired? Seems like a difficult repair

Here are pictures from inside the port and starboard hulls. The previous owner of my boat installed port covers in the hulls in front of the front cross bar. An acquaintance was curious about them and when I opened up the port hull he found the problem with the bulkhead

You have more than that going on there. Crack in the top of the bulkhead and cracks running fore and aft on both sides of the hull. The structure is compromised. This needs repair for sure.

Repair before sailing or repair at the next opportunity?

I asked a shop that did recent dagger board trunk repair about this and they basically said "No" because of the perceived difficulty.

I didn't realize there are cracks in the hull.

Time to replace the hull? My impression is that finding a replacement will be difficult.

Looks like potentially three issues going on.
1) Cracked and separating bulkhead
2) Longitudinal stringer (black) separating from the hull.
3) Longitudinal crack about 1/3 up from the bottom of the hull.

Possibly something impacted the side of the hull, over-flexing it, and causing the damage.

All of this looks repairable with epoxy resin and some biaxial fiberglass cloth, especially considering you have internal access to the hull.

But it seems like something that would best be done before sailing again, since you don’t want the sidewall of the hull to collapse.

Repair Outline:

Open access port behind the front bulkhead to put cloth on front and back of the bulkhead
Compress hull with a giant c-clamp(?) to press hull flush with bulkhead
Repair fore-aft cracks below the water line

Conservative estimate is this will cost $2k?

How much for a new to me port hull?

Any shops in SoCal/AZ that can do this type of repair?
