Post subject:  spinnaker protection

I am an H20 sailer but i thought I would post this here since everyone in this forum should have spinnaker experience....

On our boat we are using a tiger pole with a mid-pole snuffer. It has the short (~6 inch) figerglass tube at the end then the cloth bag which extends back to the crossbar. Anyway I have noticed that I am getting small pinhole sized tears in my sail and I think it has to do with the dousing, and particularily rubbing of the sail at the point where the bridle wire meets the forestay. I want to put a boot of some sort around this to protect the sail. I saw such a thing on an I17 once, i think. Anyone had similar problems? Any clever fixes? thanks. seth

one where is your snuffer located in relation to the bridle. I run mine out about a foot forward from the bridle. Second coat the spin and snuffer with holimkol seal and glide or mc lubes sail kote. Third the snu by barefoot studios is a better snuffer for saving the spin easier in and out. Last you can strip the coating off the snuffer line, and just run the core. Keep the snuffer line lubed, and clean.

Pin holes are usually caused by the snuffer line rubbing against the cloth when it's bunched up against the snuffer ring. Actually melts a hole through the cloth.

Rich has the program down. Lube everything. Tape all sharp edges & rings.
