Post subject:  New Tiger rules

In the new tiger rules it states spare must be as supplied by the manufacturer at time of manufacture.
Is it ok if you have the old boom to upgrade to the new boom?
Same with the old spin pole, rudders, ect.

C.1.2 LIMITATIONS
(a) The Hobie Tiger shall only be raced with original or replacement
equipment supplied by HOBIE CAT CO, except where otherwise
authorized by these class rules.
(b) Where replacement equipment other than from HOBIE CAT CO is
authorized, it may be obtained from any supplier provided that the
replacement is of a similar weight, size and type and performs the same
function.
C.10.5 BOWSPRIT
Only bowsprits supplied by a HOBIE CAT CO are class legal. The bowsprit
shall be fixed on the longitudinal centreline of the boat as provided by the
manufacturer. Supporting wires/lines may be shortened, lengthened, mounted
and/or rigged in any manner. Additional blocks/cleats for spinnaker running
gear and jib luff control as well as snuffer type systems may be mounted on the
bowsprit.
F.2.1 RULES

the time of manufacture of the spar.
(b) The standing and running rigging shall comply with the class rules.
F.2.2 MODIFICATIONS, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR

Yes sorry Jeremy Spar, but what if you have a spare spar? That makes the spar a spare.

So long as its Hobie parts I don't see the problem. If you've upgraded the few things that have been upgraded like the boom, rudders, and spreaders, you're just keeping up with the new boats, which are pretty much the same thing. I'd say it would be superseded by c.1.2 (a).

edit- F.2.1 (a) The spars and their fittings shall comply with the class rules in force at the time of manufacture of the spar.

My guess is this isn't so you don't modify an existing spin pole to accomodate a new ruling that may be advantageous? The new boom would be legal as it was legal at the time when the boom was manufactured.

Weird wording. I understood it the first couple of times I read it, it got fuzzier the more I did though.......
