I knew twisting off the top was part of the design capability for the square top but mine never releases that effectively.

Perhaps I need to apply more down-haul tension :shock: ?

I wonder if it was a carbon mast or aluminum? I've never heard of a I/F/N17 mast snapping. Really weird spot for a break as well. Looks like it was inbetween the diamonds.

That Nacra mast snapped 18"-24" ABOVE the spreaders. I'd be more inclined to think a diamond wire failed due to excessive mast bend in the blow...looks to be a carbon mast. Ouch.

According to the article on SA, the F17 stuck its mast in the mud and wasn't recovered until the next day.
