I have a Formula 18 and I am having trouble getting the main sail to release from the top of the mast. The main haliard is tied to a ring with a small cuppling that has a 90 degree twist in it. There is a hook on the top of the mast with no cover. Is there a modification that would help to release the main sail off the top hook? Can I bypass the hook and attach a cleat to the mast to hold the sail up? Thanks in advance for the help.
