Post subject:  Keel Question.

Hello and thanks to all who contribute to this forum. I am going to purchase Tiger and as I looked at the keel through the inspection ports,
I notice that at the point where the hulls join is much lighter than the surrounding areas-full length-- as if worn thin. I also noticed wear to the gel coat at this same area on the outside from beach dragging. You can see the fiberglass cloth but cannot feel it.
Is this a serious problem, or will gell coat fix it?

Thanks from a novice, but soon to be exp. Tiger owner. :?

That is just the thinning of gelcoat from the sand on the beach probably. If you do not see glass fibers coming through on the bottom it is probably okay. You can choose to regelcoat or not. It will not change performance much.

Later,
Dan

I owned a Fox that I let wear on the beach more than what I think you are describing. The dagger well failed, the dagger broke and the hull was destroyed. Check it over well, look for a brown tone at the surface. My experience has been poor with clam shell designs. I only sail in the ocean so sand is always a problem for me, hence, I now sail a bombproof '82 18 Mag.

Post subject:  Worn Tiger keel.

Thanks for the reply guys, I inspected the hulls pretty well and it looks like only the gel coat has worn. The rest of the boat looked in good shape -- so what the heck! I want to sail.

Thanks Thomas
