Dray

The stock Hobie Tiger STX (and Wildcat) sails are made at Ullman Italy. These are available through any Hobie Cat Dealer.
Ordering through a outside source can be a challenge and you may not get what you want. There are a lot of questions and problems unless you have a really extensive knowledge of the sails.
Hobie Sails would be your best bet until you really know the boat and feel you can make choices on how to set up a custom set. Even then there are only a couple lofts I would trust. I won't post that here as it is bad form.

Change in plans, Matt will take ownership and will most likely sail the boat with the "Redwoods" gang. Might take her down to LB for the worlds. He'll need lots of stick time and find a crew. I'll still keep my eyes open for another Tiger that can be shipped to Hawaii.
JB, so who makes the factory Tiger sails? Please don't say whirlwind or the factory loft. I'm switching to F18 because I'm having such a great time with my triple draft pocket Hobie 20 jib & main that I had to get cut down because the luff wouldn't fit on the mast (to long).
I support HCC but currently I've got a bad taste in my mouth from the money I spent on sails lately.

Sounds like a nice F18 fleet starting to bud in HI. I grew up
in Kaneohe, never sailed there though! Gotta try it next time I'm there!

Dan aka Dray here.
I worked in the Hawaii Ullman loft and still get all my recuts, wire & line from them.
I agree knowing how to pair the main & jib for conditions & crew weight can make all the difference in the world. Although I think the loose nut on the helm would be the bigger factor.
I've been in Hawaii for some 25 years now and can't wait for us local cat sailors to move on from the 80's. Currently there is one Tiger here and one WildCat on the way, I'd like to ad to that list with one of my own F18's.
It looks like the best entry level boat would be the Tiger so, that is where I'm looking at this time.
I've been searching Craigslist, eBay, beach cats, cat sailor...
Looks like I should be looking for a 2004 or younger since I can't afford a new boat. The shipping will be brutal!
Anyone know of a west coast boat for sale?
The HCC did a fantastic job packing and shipping the one tiger that is here now.
In the mean time I'll keep sailing my 20
Aloha,
Dan aka Dray

OK,
I've found a nice boat in Seattle. Anyone have a clue on packing this boat up and shipping it to Hawaii?
I called the Hobie dealer and they couldn't help pack the boat. Here is the situation, the owner is getting a new boat and wants to keep the trailer so I need to palletize and ship.
I've found out it's cheaper to palletize then ship on a trailer but haven't had any luck figuring out the logistics.
Help a brother out!

I just shipped 2 cats overseas. We basically built shortened crossbars out of lumber, padded the cradles and bolted the hulls together, wrapped them with bubble wrap in two densities and covered the whole thing with pallet wrap. Then we individually wrapped all of the appendages (ie. crossbars, boom, etc.). The parts that went together, were then packaged together with pallet wrap. We put the whole boat on the trailer, and cocooned it together with plastic.

We put the masts in a cardboard tube, and off they went. It took 3 days to package two boats and get them loaded up. We spent about $1200 on packaging.

This post sounds like kind of a scam; was it?

Why do you think it sounds like a scam?

Scam?
The original boat on this post got sold to my buddy and I'm still looking for a Tiger and I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to ship to Hawaii.
