| Post subject: | Cat Trax for Tiger without cradles? |
Hi Everyone, I read somewhere that you should use cradles with a Cat Trax for a Hobie Tiger. Surely some of you have tried it without....any problems? I'd like to avoid them if I can. Thanks, Mark |

Without cradles, you're heavily point loading the bottom of the hull (basically two circular profiles in contact, so very little contact area). A couple guys at my local beach learned that lesson the hard way when they cracked out the bottom of their Hobie 20 (similar shape and construction to a Tiger) because they were using a pair of cat trax without cradles. sm |

Mark, Make sure you get the plastic extra wide cradles because the Hobie 20 cradles are to narrow for the Tiger and they will indent your hulls (pinch). One of our 20 guys did the same thing and crunched the bottom of his hulls on the roller type. One of the Prindle guys just mounted a large wood platform (12x18) w/2x2 on inner sides to keep the hulls from falling off, then covered with carpet on each end of the axle. Seems to work good and way cheaper than cradles. I bought the cradles. Dan in Hawaii Ps it's like 80 and humid today. Why am I working? |
