Hi everyone;

This may seem like a basic question but what is the consensus on washing your sails? Do you leave the salt water on them or do you rinse them with fresh water first before you store them?

Anyone out there treating thier sails with UV protectant or similar product? Any products have you found to be good?

Take good care

The salt water won't hurt your sails, but the moisture it attracts will promote the growth of mold and mildew on the sails.

The salt will corrode brass, aluminum plates and rivets and eventually even the nickel-plated brass grommets. The green copper patina bleeds out and will stain the sail permanently.

It's best to rinse sails in fresh water, let them dry, then roll them up (never fold - especially mylar/pentex sails) and store in a cool, dry place - not a hot, steamy sail box.
