What advantage does preloading the spinnaker pole give. It looks cool, but is there a functional purpose. It looks like unneeded loading on the bow.

Most poles are preloaded to set the luff tension of the kite. I think it also helps with the support in the middle when the pole gets loaded it bends up in the middle where it has support is.
