I have been asked to see what the interest would be if there was a Hobie Tiger Nationals held in Pensacola FL, September 10th to the 14th, 2007. I know that this is kind of late notice and that I why I have been asked to do this. I would like to not dilute the Formula 18 Nationals in Galveston TX from October 8th to the 12th, 2007, but some of you that my not be able to make TX, due to the Fiji event, might be interested in FL.

+1 ... I think its a great idea, I'm sure some of us West coaster types could make the trek across - and I've been told Hobie Cat Co will help get boats there by lending us their enclosed trailer...so if we can fill up the 6 stacker (we brought to Virginia) and the enclosed box, that would handle about 10 teams - Who's up for driving?

Hi, I think it is a good idea but why were the Tiger Nationals not included in the Mini Mega in Geneva, I think there would be a very good turnout in that neck of the woods. Marvin.

The mini-Mega event is set in stone. Adding a class so dissimilar to the 18's and 17's would strain the logistics of running the event. Sorry, Marvin.

Dan - you need to get an event proposal to Lori Mohney and PU ASAP if you want this to happen this year.

Dan,

My only concern is that the date is so close to the NAF18's. I'm sure there will be some whining from the F18 camp :? But from this part of the country...Pensacola is a lot closer than Galveston. I would like to see a Tiger NAC and not have another repeat of last year. If I had to make a choice between events, I would attend the Tiger NAC 8)

Matt:

I was just asked to sus it out. There is no real plan yet. This is to see if the interest would get to about 20 or 25 teams. I have already had a number of regrets that some would not be able attend it. I do not think there will be a very big draw from the West Coast judging from the responses in my email basket. There might be enough to have an event though. Just checking it out right now. Kirk has some really good ideas if there is enough interest but he is not quite ready to formalize anything. This may turn into a Micro Nationals (a play on Mini Mega).

John:
I am first a foremost interested in keeping the Galveston Texas event as "THE ONE" first in the minds of competitors. I hope that if you have to choose between the two you pick the NAF18s. I am really excited about sailing there. My A-Cat friends have great things to say about the venue. It seems like a good proximity for much of the country. That along with a really cool place to sail, Great!

I am not sending the message that there is a Tiger event planned right now. I am just getting information from sailors...that is it!

Dan

This Jerry up here in the cold northwest. Hmm I think our last regatta is the weekend before this date. It may be possible to get 2-3 boats from this area...

Are you in or near Seattle? Seems that there is real interest in getting some Formula 18 racing going in that area.

And TIGER OD racing too! Its not all about F 18 Dan... ha-ha

Congrats on the new position, you are certainly hyping the class...

I hear the bid is shaping up nice from Kirk - I, for one am hopeful this gets put together (since I can't attend the Texas race due to the H16's in Fiji) I think the Tigers would get a nice turnout in Florida - now we just need to have a slow storm season in the gulf!

Yes we are certainly trying to build our Tiger OD racing up here in the currently, not too cold not too warm, Northwest.

After some slow growing the past few years we are now seeing the Tiger intrest showing.

We had three Tigers in Div 4 last year, and one more aquisition over the winter. Plus possibly two shoping for boats.

Realisticly looking at 4 Tigers with hopes of up to 6.

I have heard there are a few F18(non Tiger) in Vancouver BC, but from what I have heard from up there it isn't organizd racing. Here in Seattle there might be a F18(non Tiger) but I haven't seen it around anywhere.

So as Tiger850 said we may be able to send some Tigers from the Nothwest to a Nationals. I know I would be interested.

Thanks for trying to put this together, if you need some one to check with the other Tigers here, Gerry or I could call around.

Post subject:  Year of the Tiger

Wrapping up the sailing 2007 year in the Northwest.

This turned out to be a good year for the Tiger in Div-4.
We gained two additional boats, and now have 6, of which 4 are showing at most regattas. And there are three teams scouting the market for 2008.

We even managed to particapate in two F18 starts. With the exception of one Infusion (sailed by a Hobie Dealer  ) the Tigers dominated both events. It's a classic Ford vs. Chevy  rivalry developing. We show up to show them how much fun we have on the Tiger. And it's been nice to let someone else worry about running the regatta. We just show up and race.

Next year promises more of the Hobie One Design fun, with a couple of F18 events, and maybe we'll even see a couple of long distance events. too.
And OH Yea! We're holding the 2008 Tiger/H18/H17 and maybe FX-1 Nationals in Harrison Hot Springs, BC next year. :D
