A fully battened jib is legal as of April 2007 in the Tiger Class rules and since January 2007 for Formula 18 rules.

Advantages:

The biggest advantage talked about it the life of the sail. The battens will keep the sails leech from flailing too much.

Seems to me that the battens should also allow the sail shape to be more consistent.

Dan

Rich:

I just noticed that you are a Tiger sailor living in California. I do not think I have your email on the Formula 18 list for regatta information. Are you planning on attending the Wine and Roses regatta in Santa Barbara August 18 and 19?

Email me at ddelave "at" aol "dot" com so we can get you involved.

Later,
Dan

I just bought my tiger from jeremy at surf city cats and need some practice on it before i venture into the f-18 world. Mark lewis and Phil helped me along with Frank and paPat at monterey a few weeks ago. I plan on going to the moss landing challenge and a local lake for practice. the upgrade from the american 18 is tremendous.
I asked about the sail because i found a fully battened pentex on line for $750

Rich,
Tread carefully with regards to that jib if it's on Ebay . There is one that is out of country, and usually is offering his items above the cost you could buy from Surf City Catamarans, or any local dealer. I've never actually seen anyone bid on his items.
Like I said in the beginning; just be careful. I did see one here in the classifieds after I posted. Might be a safer deal.
