How do prevent from scratching you mast while raising/lowering the sail? The hook at the head of the sail brushes against the mast. I’ve tried taping it, but it just gets ripped off from locking it in the mast tip hole. This is pretty disturbing because it’s leaving scratches up and down nearly the entire mast.

Thanks,

Maybe glue some plastic on one side of the sail head, just above the hook?

Use some fine sandpaper to remove any burrs from the hook.

That's about all you can do, short of putting a strip of UHMWPE clear tape the length of the mast.

I think the advantage of having the sail go all the way to the top of the mast far outweighs the scratch you get on the mast.

You could flip the boat on its side and pull the main up by holding onto the hook. Alternatively you could alternate which side of the mast you place the hook each time you raise the sail - that way you will get matching scratches on both sides for a more symmetric look.

The FXone has the same mast. Just don't look at it, you only notice it on the trailer anyway.

3M makes a paint protection film that could be applied to the mast. If nothing else, it would protect the anodization.
