Going from an ST to an STX main. My main question is whether or not to go ahead and get all knew battens or just transfer ones from old sail. Have there been any changes to the battens worth mentioning with since 2002? Annnddd how many battens would I need to buy to compensate for the differences up top? It looks almost like I could just buy one for say the 3rd batten up, then move each one up a pocket and cut accordingly...

The thing I'm worried about is the sail had a fair share of meetings with the water when first learning to fly the spin in winds 15+. Point is the battens have taken a few hits, and one broke right where it slides into its pocket at the luff and punctured through the sail. I'd rather this not happen to the new sail so im a bit nervous about the possibility of the other battens being weak breaking.. I guess the question is when is it time to replace the battens?

I'd say its way easier to replace the battens...plus have the piece of mind that they are all new and not going to fail from having gone through multiple capsizes.

To cut and move up battens...you'd need to buy at least 3 new ones - And if you ever wanted to go back and use the ST sail for training or as a spare you'd have no battens to do it with.
