How many days of sailing would you think lasts a Tiger main, jib and spi? I mean in order to give optimum performance for racing. I think it is reasonable to count sailed days, as the real time depends on how much we sail. New sails are expensive, it would be nice to know how often they should be changed.

Most of the hard core windsurfing racers I know change the quiver every year. Cat and big boat hard core racers seem to go two years max.

"Days" isn't really a good way to count. A heavy air day puts way more wear on a sail than a light air day.

The average here for the top guys is about 1 year on the spin ( 12 regattas 2 days of sailing) and 2 to 3 years one the mail and about 1 1/2 years on the jib( furling). the non furling jib will last just as long as the main.

I'm not so sure about the roller furling jib lasting longer than the standard. The no furling jibs take a beating on the beach and get beat to death.
Most guys around here use a main about 2 years and a jib 1 year. Some people have a "play" jib and a "race jib. They extend the life of the race jib by a year or so only using it in competitive fleets and the play jib the rest of the time.

Agree with Brad. Mains almost always outlast headsails because there's a lot less luffing. Furling or non furling doesn't have much to do with it. We repair headsails over mains at a ratio of at least 3 to 1.

I now have two complete sets of sails. One for racing and one for kicking around.

When I was sailing with only one set, for both kinds of sailing, I went about two years on the main, One year on the jib and bought two spinnakers a year. I sail practically every weekend and once or twice during the week for an hour or two when I can find a crew after work.
