Post subject:  Recruiting new sailors

This was recently posted on Div. 3 forum. Think it might impact the Pac NW? Naaahhhhhhh!!!!

Hello Div 3,

Just got back from San Felipe for the Midwinters West regatta. A good time was had by all!
I've been getting a ton of calls from mono sailors who want to downsize their racing budget and are looking into the Hobie scene. I just sold a new 16 to a Melges 24 sailor who is tired of looking for crew, travel expense, etc etc. Early on in the conversation he said that a new 16 costs less than a new main for his boat, so he ponied up.

So... getting out there and interacting with some yacht clubs is probably a smart thing to do. The A-class sailors are working this angle and it seems to be getting more sailors on the water.

Anyone interested in trekking over to the Big Dinghy on March 29-20 at the RYC. It’s a great multi class event (read recruiting) and usually flat water with good breeze. Any input?

Thank you,
Jeremy Leonard

Hmmm, :?:

I might beg to differ on this with you Peter. We've been fairly successful in the Tiger Class with this approach.

Time will tell.

You don't save many souls preaching to the choir.

Some of those big boat crews might just be itching to drive their own boat.
If they get a glimpse of you speeding by on your affordable H16, it might just be the push they needed.

A few rum/cokes at the bar, and Dan then can step in to close the deal. :D

Guess you should get your Hobie 16 (and 17, 18) fleet going for the NOOD regatta. Don't let the A-Cats and F-18s steal all the potential crossovers!!!

Dang!!!! Jeremy sells 16's dirt cheap. I'll take 10 at that price!

(New Melges 24 racing main is about $2k. You might be able to stretch it to 2.5 using the latest whizbang cloth and paying an "I need it yesterday" rush fee. But I doubt it.)
