I disagree - its the Crew & Skipper combo - if you don't mind me saying.

Long live the Crew Union!

Have a Hobie Day!

I would have to agree, when you get to the top 10% of the fleet I often say a good finish is 60% crew, and a poor finish is 60% skipper.

The point really being, this is a TEAM Sport.
The days when a good skipper can go out with a pickup crew and finish at the top of the heap are few and far between.

I am sorry about that, crew is for me the most important ingredient. I was thinking about the Wave that beat me in open recently being a solo boat.

Sorry, Jacques

I would agree that on the Tiger especially, the crew is a HUGE factor in sailing consistently at the top of the fleet.

As an example, Jacques and I have done some tuning sessions with some of the SoCal sailors where we would jump on others Tigers for a race or 2 as crew to help the skippers. Most of the time with us being crews we were able to sail at the top of the fleet no matter who we were sailing with.

And I do still consider myself part of the "crew union", I put in more than enough time at the front end of boats that hopefully I have a life-time membership. :D

Yes Greg, you are still in the union...no worries.
You are too Bob - though both of you better watch out - if I hear just one complaint from either of your current crews about miss-treatment, you can just as easily be banned for life from the union!

Now lets all hold hands and sing 'Kumbaya' together!
:)
