http://www.HCspace.org is trying to gather up what division 6 sailors there are. Try there and maybe more will join with you. It's a social network for Hobie Sailors.

Ledfoot2,

I too am a new Division 6 sailor and would like to get into racing this summer. I'm not finding much Division 6 activity either. The Division 6 chairman is Chris Green, his email is [email protected]. It seems that I read something on the web to the effect that Divison 6, or maybe just a Houston area fleet, had fallen out of favor with the HCA for allowing strange non-hobie catatamarans to compete in their regattas.

Division 14 just to the north of us seems much more active. Here's a link to their site: http://www.div14.hobieclass.com/. You might also surf the Hobie Class Association site at http://www.hca-na.org/. Fleet 23 in Dallas might be a good bet. The Dallas dealer, Mariner Sails (find "The Dog" on this forum), should be able to tell you what's going on with Fleet 23.

If you sail in NE Texas or NW Louisiana, let me know. I'm a member of the Shreveport Yacht Club and we have a couple of club races nearly every Sunday afternoon. Racing is usually done via Portsmouth against MC-Scows, J-22s and Thistles, but at least it's an opportunity to practice starts and rounding the bouys. I've got an H-20, there's a NACRA 5.8 and a Supercat 20 that are also fairly active. There are several H-16s in the club that collect a lot of dust. Several times a year we sponsor some larger weekend regattas in which we'll get a Portsmouth catamaran class together. Check out our site at www.shreveyacht.com

If you find some Division 6 activity, let me know. Click on my profile and you'll see my email address.

You guys definitly need to check that Division 14 schedule and mark, at least, a couple of events on your calendars. (i.e. Dallas - Leukemia Cup, Mid-America's)

NOTE - Keep tabs on the website as the 2009 schedule and NOR's will be posted within the next month (sorry for the delay)

In Division 14 the H20 is king and there's always some new 20 sailors as well as the ones that finish in the top of the rankings every year. You'll find plenty of competition and free flowing information to get you up to "speed" ASAP. It's a blast sailing weekend regattas with at least 8, if not 14, boats on the line. Pick any D14 event, check the website and shoot an email to the fleet commodore.

:)
