H16 Low Profile Blocks: 3" or 2 1/4" ?

Post subject:  H16 Low Profile Blocks: 3" or 2 1/4" ?
Anyone provide thoughts on which size blocks are best for the H16? I have an older boat and am likely to replace the original blocks with lowe profiles. Have also considered the "rework" kit that converts the two block system to a combined system.

As far as off the shelf blocks go, I know that the 3" are more expensive and limit mast rake a bit more than the 2 1/4" due to their larger size. But ostensibly they can use a larger line and the sheets run more easily. Obviously the contrary is true on the smaller size, which I realize is the stock size offered by the factory now.

I would go with what the factory is currently running on the boats......I sailed nationals with the new set up and it was very easy to sheet and unsheet. the smaller ones will also give you more mast rake!

FWIW, I did the "rework". Converted my old 5:1 to 6:1. It wasn't too hard, and I'm pleasantly surprised at the good results.

Obviously it would be better to buy new if you can afford it, but if the budget's tight, don't be afraid to do the conversion. It works.

The question of the line running through the blocks... Use the 2 1/4 blocks and 3/8 line. If you want larger line, you would have to use the bigger blocks, but with 6:1 you don't need 7/16 line any longer. 3/8 is the current standard.
