All,

I've decided to go look at an H18 for sale tomorrow to race in summer 2010.

I've seen a few posts related to the problems you can have racing a boat with "soft hulls" (namely structural failure) and the problems related to trying to correct large "soft" spots.

I want to be sure the boat I am considering purchasing does not suffer from "soft hulls" but I have no idea what this means. I have owned two Hobies and never had a hull problem so i don't know what to look for.

Will the hull literally flex under pressure?

Can you see a soft spot just by looking at it?

How do I test for soft hulls (eg. tap the hulls and listen for a sound, push on the hulls, look for bulges/depressions)?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Mike

Yes.

Small ones, no. Big ones, maybe.

Thanks so much for the advice. I inspected the hulls and they were solid. I bought it: '83 Hobie 18.
